Sebastian Henri Dean
October 14, 2011
7:30pm

7 lbs. 14 oz.
20.5 in.

He decided to make his way into this world 3 weeks early and in an unforgettable fashion! An emergency c-section had to be preformed after 19 hours of labor and two failed epidurals. He was not able to progress further than 7 cm and it became apparent that he was stuck. Due to the failure of the two epidurals, I had to elect to have an emergency c-section under general anesthesia. I was very upset about this cause I would be asleep when my son was born, but it was our only option.

Unfortunately, something happened between me heading to surgery and Sebastian being delivered. We have been told a variety of different reasons but ultimately, he was so stuck that it took the surgeon awhile to get him out and he was born non-responsive. Chest compressions and oxygen were required.

Jonathan got to see the little man shortly after he was moved to the NICU. I, on the other hand, would have to wait a whole three days before getting to meet him. I did not do well in surgery either, and due to a very high heart rate I was taken to the ICU for a blood transfusion and IV meds.

Poor Jonathan was caught in a whirlwind of traumatic incidents and had to go back and forth between the NICU and ICU, which were on opposite sides of the hospital. Sebastian stayed in the NICU for four days until he and I were finally able to be moved back into a maternity room, together. I finally made it out of the ICU and had to have two blood patches because my spinal fluid was leaking due to the epidurals. Sebastian developed Jaundice (common in pre-term babies) and had to be in ultra violet lights for several days...that was miserable! Babies don't like being naked and don't like not being held.

I am happy to announce that we are now all home and doing much better! It was an extended hospital stay after a delivery we did not expect in the least, but he is absolutely worth it!!!

Jonathan is an incredible Daddy! I love watching him interact with Sebastian! Thanks to him and my mom, coming home was a lot easier. They have been so wonderful and helpful!

Sebastian Henri has the most beautiful blond hair and absolutely hates his diaper changed!

More updates and pictures to come!
